Odoo 20 introduces a wide range of improvements across artificial intelligence, accounting, logistics, marketing, Voice over IP, timesheets and everyday user experience. But the release also brings an important commercial change: a new Light User category and updated pricing for the Custom Plan.
Here is what companies need to understand before adopting or upgrading to Odoo 20.
What is new in Odoo 20?
The new version focuses on reducing manual work, improving access to information and creating smoother processes across departments.
More assistance in daily operations
Odoo 20 expands the use of artificial intelligence to help users automate processes, access information faster and support operational decisions.
Accounting improvements
New accounting capabilities aim to simplify financial operations, controls and access to the information teams need throughout the year.
Logistics and inventory enhancements
Improvements across logistics, inventory and barcode operations help teams manage physical flows more efficiently.
Marketing, VoIP and timesheets
The release also improves communication, marketing activities, time tracking and several everyday workflows across the platform.
Odoo 20 is available, but upgrading requires preparation
Odoo 20 is available for new databases on Odoo Online and Odoo.sh, as well as for download. According to Odoo’s release announcement, its upgrade tools are being tested, with the upgrade platform expected by the end of November 2026 and test access planned earlier.
Odoo’s new pricing structure
Odoo announced new pricing from 24 September 2026. The impact depends on the plan and on whether users qualify for the new Light User category.
The free offer remains unchanged.
The Standard Plan remains unchanged.
Odoo announced a 20% increase for the Custom Plan.
What is an Odoo Light User?
A Light User is intended for people who only need a limited set of capabilities. This can make the licensing model more suitable for organisations where many employees do not require full access to Odoo.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Odoo 20 already available?
Yes. Odoo announced that version 20 is available for download and for new databases on Odoo Online and Odoo.sh. Existing databases should follow the appropriate upgrade process.
Should every company upgrade immediately?
No. The right timing depends on your current version, custom developments, integrations, operational calendar and testing capacity. An impact assessment should come before the migration.
What is the difference between a regular user and a Light User?
A regular user has access according to the company’s plan and assigned permissions. A Light User is limited to a defined set of employee and operational functions and is offered at a reduced price.
Does the Custom Plan price increase affect existing users?
Odoo states that the new price applies to additional users not already ordered. Existing contracted users follow the renewal provisions of their applicable agreement. Companies should verify their own contract before making projections.
